FALCON is looking for reliable, safety and solutions-focused individuals to join our wildlife management team at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
The Wildlife Management Technician (WMT) will report to the Site Manager and local oversight team. As a WMT, you will be using various tools and methods, including falconry, to mitigate the risks posed by wildlife hazards at Vancouver International Airport.

Starting date & Schedule
Aspects of onboarding and training will begin shortly after the hiring process with full-time training starting in January 2024.
We are in operation 7 days a week, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Candidates will be required to work shifts (12hr or 8hr), including nights, holidays, and weekends. Shift lengths and the number of hours worked vary seasonally. This is a full-time permanent position with opportunities for growth.
Your responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Learn and develop skills relative to wildlife management, abatement and dispersal methods, including but not limited to the discharge of pyrotechnics, the use of firearms, the deployment of falconry birds and canine, the use of drones, and trapping activities;
- Identify wildlife (mainly birds), collect data on species, and abatement interventions;
- Maintain company vehicles and other equipment, including firearms, in safe and clean working order;
- Complete forms and daily activity reports on tablet.
- Patrol the airfield, including active runways and taxiways, and airport sites by vehicle, by foot and by boat while maintaining situational awareness of wildlife hazards and aircraft;
- Perform fieldwork and/or collect data for scientific studies.

- Familiarity with computers and tablets (Apple environment).
- Experience with drones/RPAS.
- Experience in animal training.
- Good time management and communication skills.
- Good observation skills and have experience or interest in wildlife identification (birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles).
- Have prior hunting and trapping experience.
- Possess the following licences and certifications:
- A valid BC general Class 5 driver’s license, or North American equivalent.
- A Firearms Possession and Acquisition certificate (PAL is mandatory);
- Have completed the CORE Training course and are in possession of a BC Hunter licence (mandatory); successful candidates will be required to acquire this if not already licensed within the first 6 months of employment.
- Ability to pass an Enhanced Background Check by Transport Canada for Restricted Airport Identification Card (mandatory).
